The Ionic Temple in Sicily is a rare example of Ionic Temple, The Artemision occupies a special interesting historic area. The entrance hall is extraordinary with a suggestive light games.
Found in the basement of the Palace of the Senate, the Ionic Temple or Artemision, dated to the late sixth century BC., is where the deepest roots of ancient Siracusa are. It is dated at the end of VI century B.C. and it seems to be dedicated to Goddess Artemide, greek protector of the city.
It's one of kind example of Ionic Temple in city, probably incomplete. It is discovered by archeological excavations directed by Paolo Orsi in 1910, he showed an area of extraordinary historical interest which refers to Temples of minor Asia.
The entrance hall of the excavations, realized recently, is very beautiful. It is thought as an ancient sacre cell to open sky, alike the nàos of Ionic Temple. The inner elements are characteristic, sush as the illumination: the shine that seeps in through a big "lantern" becomes a light chamber on the underlying excavations.
At the end, the vertical cut on the wall of the Minerva place links, in visual and spatial way, the finds of this Temple and the Atena's temple corner column, today Chatedral of Siracusa.
