An ideal place for a long walk in front of a beautiful panorama, the Foro Vittorio Emanuele preserves the Porta Marina and the Fontana degli Schiavi.

Are you looking for a perfect place for a quiet stroll?
Then visit the Foro Vittorio Emanuele, from which you can admire the Great Port and part of the old city.

Walking along the Forum, built to celebrate the unification of Italy, you will encounter the Porta Marina, a white stone construction and the only example of the portals of the Syracusan medieval fortifications that allowed access to the city.

There is also the Fontana degli Schiavi, a small 16th century drinking trough probably used by the slaves of the masters of the time to drink and wash - hence its current name -, with ancient heraldic coats of arms belonging to noble Syracusan families.
Next to it is the reproduction of the Bourbon coat of arms of Syracuse: a Samnite-shaped shield on which the eagle stands out, represented in front, with legs and tail feathers spread apart, wings open in unfolded flight and head in profile facing right.

Today the fountain has been restored and a lighting system has been built that allows it to be used even in the evening hours.
