The Church of Santa Lucia alla Badia is well-known for the feast of Santa Lucia delle Quaglie (of quails). The church in Ortigia has a beautiful baroque facade and rich interiors of plasters.

The beautiful baroque facade, through inconographic symbols, narrates the torture of the Saint.
It's completely characterized by calcareous white stone and a particular terrace in wrought iron divides the prospecteus in two orders - in reality the original terrace was disassembled during the Second World War in order to use iron for military reasons, successively it was replaced. (you can see that the board isn't perfectly in line with the  axis of symmetry of prospecteus.)

The interiors, divided in central nave, with pillars and lateral altares, and octagonal apse, are full of plasters. Between the most important paintings there is the painting dedicates to the miracle of Santa Lucia in 1646 that happened right in that Chuch. This miracle is the reason of the feast of Santa Lucia delle Quaglie (of quails) that it's celebrated the first sunday of May.

It's narrated that, whtile the crowd was reunited in prayer to ask the Saint the liberation of the city from famine, a dove lied on the episcopal throne, at the same moment a shape full of wheat and beans arrived in order to switch her charged with hospitality.

Till a few months ago, the church hosted the painting of Caravaggio "Sepulture of Santa Lucia" today it's returned to his original domicile in Santa Lucia al Sepolcro
